team player

I'm amazed when people read this thing, this outlet for some of my most ridiculous angst. I've been tagged! awww, thanks tale of two brides. I got blog love right back at 'cha.

I shall tag:
Lauren and Desaray
Rachel
Liz
and
East Side Bride

who must now abide by the blog honor code and rules i did not come up with myself:

Step 1: respond and rework—answer the questions on your own blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.
Step 2: tag other un-tagged people.

Make a list of things you can see without getting up: Framed pic of the FH, my money tree (please grow money!), posters from past policy forums, several discarded post-its with incomplete thoughts

Favorite football team: Let’s Go Giants! Um, yeah, not so much this year.
What are you wearing now? Typical Friday work outfit, corduroys, boots, white sweater combo
What color is your bedroom? Renter’s white
What’s the last thing you read/are currently reading? Just finished Fall on Your Knees by Alice McDermott, seriously amazing/tragic book, currently reading Anna Karenina
What is the last thing you cooked? Cheeseburgers, sweet potato fries and roasted broccoli for the honey and me
What is your favorite restaurant of all time? Gramercy Tavern, followed closely by the Mermaid Inn
What’s your current obsession/addiction?
Falafel and dried cherries, not together

What was the last gift you gave? A broach for my mother’s birthday and paintings that I made for my sister’s new baby girl (given on the same day)

What was the last thing you bought? Groceries, really boring actually, the most exciting item was rosemary and olive oil Triscuits
What are you listening to right now? If But When on my computer speakers

What movie do you know every word to? When Harry Met Sally, Love Actually, Sixteen Candles and A Princess Bride...wow...I just learned something about myself and I'm a little embarrassed
If you could have any super power, what would it be? I’d like to fly
What is your favorite weather, and why? Fall, crisp air, clear sky

What is your most challenging goal right now? Involving my future mother in law in my wedding/life

If you could have a house–totally paid for, fully furnished–anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be? Brownstone in Brooklyn, I blame the huxtables

The last vacation you took? Wine country + southern California

Name one thing you just can’t resist no matter how bad it is for you: aged non-smoked gouda cheese and bacon, not together
If you could meet anyone famous - dead or alive - who would it be? Eleanor Roosevelt

If you could have any job in the world , what would it be? Executive Director of an international relief agency

New Question

You see a cute baby, what is your reaction? Awww, I’d like one of those, dear lord, what am I thinking?!?!

ps, tagging other blogs feels like asking someone out on a date. nerve-wracking really. could be because my nerves are shot from work. who knows.

happy feet

Ordered these lovelies about a week ago when they went on sale for $149, thanks jcrew!
they arrived while I was in DC for work...so it was a pleasant surprise Monday morning to walk into my office and find a present. My fuzzy phone pic of them:

Not sure why they look yellow in the pic, they are more golden. I'm hoping to break them in over the next few months. I have my mother's feet, which means I have bunions.

facebook this

I've resisted joining facebook for a long time. I base this on two things:

1. My 2003 experience with friendster. not healthy.
2. I fear it will cause guest list bloating and put me out there for "Am I invited" questions, which I abhor. I don't want to re-connect with people and feel guilty about not inviting them to the wedding.

stupid or justified?

man code

Tuxedos. eh. *shrug* I don't care for them. FH owns one, so I guess he can wear it. I just hate bow ties, cummerbunds and those weird vests they make them wear with ties. Why all the hoopla?
what's with the vest, buddy?

I'd like a simple tie. Possibly in ivory, with his guys in a blue tie. No vests. I'd prefer suits, but got shot down by the Lazy Bride Wedding Committee that has been formed to keep me in line. The chairman is my sister, minority (dissenting in her support for me) representative is my mother and the bridesmaids making up the members. FH is brought in for expert testimony sometimes.

I casually message FH about the tuxes and I now have top hats, monocles and scepters to worry about. Sweet Jesus. Apparently I've violated the man code by even asking.

Mens Warehouse has a tuxedo Build-A-Tux tool! I'm a big fan of the Build-a-something tool. Especially the Build-a-Muppet tool at FAO schwartz. And of course the classic Build-a-South Park character. So fun.
that's me!

me v. the knot

In a moment of insanity, I signed up for the knot.com and no amount of get-me-off-your-email-or-i-will has relieved me from their incessant anxiety inducing reminder emails.

Lazybride! You have nine months to go! Here's what you should do!

I. Have. Nine. Months. To. Go.

Apparently I have to
1. Finalize the Guest List
2. Pick out Floral Arrangements
3. Register for Gifts

1. We are still finalizing the guest list. In recent weeks, I have turned heartless, cutting once close friends who I just don't see anymore and at one time v. close work friends. With the justification that I haven't seen these people in months. However, one lives in London. So maybe if I send her an invitation she won't be able to make it...no! that's the kind of logic that got me into this mess. I sent my mother our guest list asking her to fill in our side of the family. Turns out I had completely forgotten a whole sect of my family in Chicago and some of my parents' friends. I'm not angry about the parents' friends thing, I like hanging out with old people and tend to see my parents' friends more than I see some of my own. They always compliment and feed me. What's not to like?

2. Hired a florist at the bidding of my sister (and every subsequent female) who gasped in horror when I mentioned doing my own flowers.

3. Registering...this was supposed to be the fun part, right? Well. It's not. It's tiring. Especially when your FH decides that he will spend the whole time in Bed Bath and Beyond pouting because I want china. Why would one need $2000 worth of fancy plates? I asked in response, why would one need $2000 worth of tv/video game equipment? Before he moved in, I was still in a long term relationship with my tv/vcr combo (the last one Best Buy sold in 2001). "Santa" left us a blue ray and surround sound speakers for christmas. no joke. The boy thought I would be excited opening up a blue ray box. I can barely tell the difference, but I do know that I am totally justified in my desire for fancy plates.

so there. screw you knot.com.

please don't scare me next month.

City Hall

Don't assume I haven't thought/dreamt/plotted to just walk down to city hall and get hitched. It's not just for the movies...

Pleasant-er

A few days after returning from the unnamed midwest city, I gathered a few friends and my sister for some bridesmaid dress shopping at RK Bridal and palliative how-bad-are-your-in-laws lunch afterwards.

Despite one pregnant sister's slight objections, we picked this Alfred Sung dress in midnight. RK bridal was extremely affordable. The dress should come out to $102 before shipping, alterations and taxes, who knew they were so affordable? Kind of explains their horrible website.

We have two pregnant sisters and several bridesmaids "going off" the birth control, aka pulling the goalie. I may be preceded by a line of pregnant women and recent moms. And nothing would make me happier.
